It has been a while since I last wrote here, at least a few months. I also left my site unfinished even though it’s functional enough – I swear I’m going to finish it eventually! It might have something to do with being busy and trying to refloat both my YouTube and twitch channels (with different levels of success), plus a strong streak of fixation on different games in the last months:
- June: Got a PS5 Slim for 400€ and have been playing Gran Turismo 7 almost every day since then. 250 hours and counting.
- July: Palworld 1.0. Obviously wasn’t going to let this pass and for 3 weeks Kiba and I hyperfocused hard on beating it, one more time. If you never played this game, I swear, it is addictive as hell.
- August: Splatoon Raiders and getting hooked on something I never really expected to grow on me.
Still haven’t released a vid in like one or two months, but it wasn’t because I didn’t try. I wrote and recorded at least 2 or 3 vids that didn’t make it because they felt like shit and unimportant in the end, fact that made me rethink yet again how should I structure and make my videos. I think I’m getting there, though. There are two written scripts and another one that I’m still thinking how should make it. Wish me luck.
Sadly, it wasn’t all good in the end. The project I was working on at my job got finished and went unassigned, spending a whole month in the bank and working in the meantime on other projects that weren’t so pleasant. It hit like a truck then, because it was one of those that makes you ask yourself if you still like programming as a job, but the one I landed on afterwards is more or less the same. The project just begun and it’s already showing your usual consultancy issues: Managed by people that have no idea of coding and try to micromanage everything, but I wish it was just that.
It turned out they are expecting me to use genAI to code. First it was a prototype, but now they’re feature creeping such prototype and even mentioned that “we’re close to reaching a final product”, which makes me think they pretend us to work over it instead of making the software by ourselves. If there is still any decent coding job out there, I’m praying to the spaghetti god for it to show and hire me, but it doesn’t seem like it. Instead, everything you can find in Spain is the same cheap and crappy consultancy contractors that will, well, cheap out on everything while paying you crumbs. Programming, and especially at the front-end, was something I got into because of the creativity aspect of it; but it seems nowadays nobody cares for the craft and 99% of the field is dominated by techbros. There are no ethics or care around here, and I don’t know if this is my thing anymore. I cannot do anything else for a living, and it never worked for me to work as a freelancer – I’m too tired after two decades of trying to success on anything to now blessfully think I could do it.
